PART SECOND

INSPIRATION

The second part of my experience with film is dedicated almost to only one type of film: Fujifilm Acros 100 pushed to 400. The reason why I pushed to ISO 400 is due to the fact that I photographed mostly at night along the streets of my city: Milan. Taking pictures in the middle of the night is something I've always loved to do even with modern digital cameras. It is an experience that every photographer should try, since it's almost a challenge given the particular lighting conditions. The night is a moment that I would call magical: You have more time to think about the composition, the light while enjoying the analogue process in full. The photos were taken a few days before the lock down that kept us imprisoned in our homes for more than two months.

ACROS

I have to say that I had previously used this film but every time I shoot with it I am amazed by the general quality and emotions that it can transmit to me. I like the shade of black, a velvet that seems to envelop the light in a symbiotic embrace. The contrast and cleanliness of the images is unsurpassed. I must point out that it is still version 1 of Acros. Fujifilm recently produced and marketed Acros II but I haven't found it yet from my regular supplier. I don't think it changed that much however, some photographers reported a further improvement of the grain of the film making the images even more outlined and clean. I will definitely try it as soon as it is available.

KODAK TRI-X 400

I really enjoyed the Kodak Tri-X 400 film I mentioned in the previous article and I find it wonderful, the grain so clearly visible gives me strong emotions, but I will use it occasionally just to break the routine. I also intend to change the subject and try both films by taking some boudoir photos or some portraits. Certainly the photos taken at night with Acros satisfied me most. I'm really happy and I hope you appreciate it too.

KODAK PORTRA 400

I wanted to test this excellent film even if for street photography I much prefer black and white, but I must admit that I appreciated the quality and color tone of this film. The experimentation with color will not end immediately because I intend to use other color films such as fujifilm in order to start a comparison. Obviously I will write an article about it in the coming months.
